France: A double edged sword

France: A double edged sword

The countries of Europe are so varied and different in their culture, attitudes and even cuisine and it makes the continent such a fantastic place to visit. Arguably one of the most popular countries to visit is France, especially places like the romantic Paris and the wine country of Bordeaux. I have been to France several times and enjoyed every visit. However, there are certain things about the country that I am not a massive fan of.

First off, what is up with the people? I have never met a more miserable and xenophobic bunch anywhere on my travels (the amount of people with breast implants in Paris is genuinely shocking, and that is coming from someone in the UK). Admittedly I have not been to Russia, but I can honestly say I would expect to see more cheer there. I am not talking about every Frenchman or woman here, I have met some really pleasant people on my travels around that country.

However, as a general rule, if you are stuck or lost anywhere and you ask for directions or any help, the people tend to turn their noses up at you. Even if you have a go at speaking French, something I would appreciate if I was French, they still pretend like they can’t understand you and dismiss your questions. It can get quite annoying, to say the least.

The country itself; the landscapes, cityscapes, food and, of course, the wine are all magnificent. France is definitely a place worth visiting for many reasons and is one of Europe’s top countries. Paris in particular is a great city, full of culture and some truly fantastic architecture. For those looking to shop til they drop, Paris is one of the fashion capitals of the world. However, watch out for the attitude of its population.
